New Orleans police are hoping the public can help identify two different suspects caught on surveillance video in a rash of shoplifting cases at the Circle K on South Claiborne and a package theft on Vendome Place in Fontainebleau, authorities said. One man is wanted in four different shoplifting cases at the Circle K store near Calhoun Street that took place on Sept. 9, Oct. 11, Nov. 1 and Nov.

Personally, I’ve never been one to armchair quarterback murder investigations or second-guess police when their actions could be described as “restrained.” I’m not a cop and I have no law enforcement training. My relevant expertise as an attorney is limited to simply whether police are operating within the law, and that’s a limited scope.

However, it is difficult not to look a little cock-eyed at the investigation into the killing of Joe McKnight down in Terrytown. Publicly-released information makes one wonder: Why hasn’t the perp been charged yet?

I am frequently asked where to dine, “where’s the best new place?” even, “where’s the best old place?” It’s an impossible question in New Orleans. There are too many choices. My column is mainly limited to the Uptown area, so that narrows the scope somewhat, but not really.

Last night’s question was, “Where are you brunching this weekend?” Well, here’s the answer. I’m brunching casual and close to home. I’m not trying anything particularly new. It’s a busy week, and I’m seeking comfort and familiarity. That said, comfort and familiarity in New Orleans also equal good food, great chefs, and innovative menus. Casual means no Apolline or Patois this go-round. It also means jeans, a baseball cap, and close enough to walk.

If you ever set foot inside of the CVS on Prytania Street or Zara’s across the way, you couldn’t help but notice Roechelle Cox. She was the ray of sunshine who welcomed you at both neighborhood spots for about three years, until July of this year. That was when her CVS manager made a trip to her apartment on Milan Street with the apartment manager because Cox hadn’t shown up at work. They found the 51 year old dead.
