Second District releases details on three recent Uptown robberies

Second District investigators have released additional details on three recent Uptown robberies described earlier this week. According to Lt. Mike Montalbano:

On September 5, 2010 at approximately 5:40 pm the victim was walking in the 4500 block of Saint Charles. At that time she was approached by an unknown black male who snatched her cellular phone from her hand and fled on Saint Charles making good his escape. The suspect is described as black male 5’6, 30 to 40 years of age. On September 8, 2010 at approximately 12:41 am the victim exited her vehicle in the 4700 block of Carondelet.

The current operator of Parasol’s will open a new bar called Tracey’s on Sept. 2 at 2604 Magazine St., the current location of the Irish Garden bar, while the longtime owner of Parasol’s has a new tenant in mind who he says will take it back to its sandwich-shop roots. Meanwhile, New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood Co. will open its seventh location – which will include a full bar plus coffee and beignet shop – in November at the current site of Cannon’s, 4141 St. Charles Ave.

Pedestrian’s purse snatched by pistol-toting bicyclist on St. Charles

A woman walking on St. Charles Avenue was robbed at gunpoint of her purse by two men on bicycles Thursday evening, police said.The woman was near Cadiz Street about 9 p.m. when two men rode up to her on bicycles, according to a New Orleans Police Department email alert. One pulled out a small silver handgun and snatched away her purse, and then the bicyclists took off on St. Charles toward downtown, police said. The robber is described as a black man in his late teens with shoulder-length dreadlocks under a red baseball cap, wearing black clothes and riding a BMX bicycle.
