Pedestrian’s purse snatched by pistol-toting bicyclist on St. Charles

A woman walking on St. Charles Avenue was robbed at gunpoint of her purse by two men on bicycles Thursday evening, police said.The woman was near Cadiz Street about 9 p.m. when two men rode up to her on bicycles, according to a New Orleans Police Department email alert. One pulled out a small silver handgun and snatched away her purse, and then the bicyclists took off on St. Charles toward downtown, police said.

The robber is described as a black man in his late teens with shoulder-length dreadlocks under a red baseball cap, wearing black clothes and riding a BMX bicycle. The other man “did not say or do anything but watch as the robbery took place,” the email says, and no significant description of him is offered.
