Rash of carjackings continues across Uptown neighborhoods

Carjackings and other robberies are becoming commonplace in Uptown neighborhoods, according to New Orleans Police Department reports from the past week. Early Wednesday morning (Jan. 12), a 48-year-old man was robbed by a group of men at Earhart and South Lopez streets. At about 1:25 a.m. the men grabbed the victim and forced him to the ground. They held him down, took his wallet from his pocket and ran off.

Before the New Year begins, two men killed in separate Uptown shootings

Two men were killed in separate Uptown shootings on Friday afternoon (Dec. 31). The first deadly shooting occurred at about 1 p.m. on Martin Luther King Boulevard and South Prieur Street. Gunfire erupted from a vehicle driving through the area — striking a 56-year-old woman, 27-year-old man and 26-year-old man. Medical responders took Kenyon Coston, 27, to the hospital, where he died of gunshot wounds.

Police blotter: Two shootings, one injuring a child bystander; two vehicle thefts; and the theft of a pet dog

 

A child was injured in one of two shootings in Uptown neighborhoods this week, according to reports from the New Orleans Police Department. The reports also show the rash of vehicle thefts and carjackings continues, despite several recent arrests. And a man is missing his dog after it was stolen from him in Central City. Armed robbery: A woman’s car was stolen in the Freret neighborhood on Wednesday (Nov. 17).

Two shootings and a carjacking were reported in Central City during the holiday weekend, and a 72-year-old man was robbed near the Pontchartrain Expressway in the Lower Garden District. A 44-year-old man was shot early Monday (Nov. 1) in the 3300 block of South Saratoga Street. At about 12:45 a.m., NOPD Sixth District officers found him suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police blotter: Two shootings, attempted armed burglary

In addition to a deadly shooting at a second-line, two shootings and an attempted armed burglary were reported in Uptown neighborhoods over the weekend. On Sunday (Sept. 26), an 87-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man thwarted an armed burglary attempt in Broadmoor. The man was sitting on the porch in the 3400 block of Louisiana Avenue Parkway at about 11:45 a.m. when a man and woman approached. The victim went inside and the couple tried to force their way in.

Police blotter: Victim identified in Central City homicide; Lower Garden District shooting causes injury

Two shootings, one of them fatal, were reported this week in Uptown neighborhoods. The homicide occurred Monday (Sept. 14) in Central City. At about 9:50 p.m., officers found Terrance Gibson in the 1200 block of South Saratoga Street suffering from gunshot wounds. Medical responders took Gibson to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police blotter: Two shootings, home invasion, carjacking

Among the crimes reported in Uptown neighborhoods early this week, including a carjacking, two home invasions and two shootings. A man carjacked a 49-year-old woman around 2 a.m. Monday (July 19) at St. Charles Avenue and Pine Street. When the woman stopped at the intersection, he pushed her out of the car, grabbed the wheel and drove away. Around 11:30 a.m. on Monday (July 19), a woman broke into a home in the 3500 block of Second Street.

Two women and a man were injured this week in separate shootings within blocks of each other on a well-traveled thoroughfare separating the Broadmoor and Hoffman Triangle neighborhoods. The first shooting occurred on Tuesday (June 13) at about 10 p.m., the New Orleans Police Department said. The victims, a 34-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man, were inside a vehicle in the 3400 block of Toledano when an unknown gunman fired shots into their car. Both were injured in the shootings.

NOPD reports two shootings in Central City

The New Orleans Police Department has reported two shootings in Central City in the past 24 hours. On Friday (June 25), a shooting in the 2300 block of Sixth Street left a woman wounded, the New Orleans Police Department reported. Initial reports received just before 10 a.m. show an adult female was found with a gunshot wound. She was transported by the Emergency Medical Service to a local hospital. On Thursday, a 31-year-old man was wounded in a shooting at about 9:20 p.m. on Washington and South Claiborne avenues.
