NOPD announces arrests in Uptown carjackings

The New Orleans Police Department announced the arrests of three suspects, including one juvenile, in recent Uptown carjackings and vehicle thefts. Police have also obtained arrest warrants in a carjacking near St. Charles and Louisiana avenues and arrested a suspect in a Hoffman Triangle shooting. NOPD Second District officers have arrested Quinton Skipper, 19, and a 17-year-old juvenile male on one count each of armed robbery in a carjacking. Police added more charges after their Jan.

Carjackers target women in Uptown neighborhoods near universities

Five carjackings and armed robberies occurred in quick succession Saturday afternoon (Jan. 15) in neighborhoods surrounding the universities, according to the New Orleans Police Department. All the victims in these crimes were female, police reports indicate. On Sunday, police said that four suspects arrested in unrelated incidents late Saturday may be connected to crimes in the Second District. All of Saturday’s incidents occurred in the Second District.

Rash of carjackings continues across Uptown neighborhoods

Carjackings and other robberies are becoming commonplace in Uptown neighborhoods, according to New Orleans Police Department reports from the past week. Early Wednesday morning (Jan. 12), a 48-year-old man was robbed by a group of men at Earhart and South Lopez streets. At about 1:25 a.m. the men grabbed the victim and forced him to the ground. They held him down, took his wallet from his pocket and ran off.

Four teenagers booked in string of carjackings and armed robberies

The New Orleans Police Department arrested four teenagers Tuesday (Dec. 21) in connection with a rash of carjackings, armed robberies and auto thefts that occurred in several Uptown neighborhoods beginning on Sunday (Dec. 19) around 4 p.m.

Uptown neighborhoods plagued by carjackings, armed robberies

Multiple carjackings have been reported by the New Orleans Police Department this week across Uptown neighborhoods. A 21-year-old woman was carjacked early Wednesday (Dec. 22) in the Irish Channel. She was parking her car in the 3300 block of Constance Street just before 1 a.m. when three men approached. They demanded her keys and other property before fleeing in her 2013 gray Mercedes-Benz with Louisiana license plate 685 DBK. On Tuesday morning, two carjacking incidents and an armed robbery were reported in Uptown neighborhoods.

A carjacker got into a pickup truck that was left running in the Irish Channel early Wednesday (Dec. 1). The owner, a 63-year-old man, stepped away from his pickup in the 400 block of Philip Street at about 4:15 a.m. When he returned, he found the man inside.

Police blotter: Carjacking and three robberies reported

Two cars and a motorcycle were stolen in Uptown neighborhoods over the weekend, and a group of juveniles was arrested in purse snatching. Carjacking: A teenage girl was carjacked on Sunday (Nov. 21) in the Garden District. Three men approached the 17-year-old at about 4:30 p.m. as she was getting out of her car in the 1200 block of Harmony Street. One of the men pulled on her door handle, then pulled out a gun and demanded her keys.

Police blotter: Two shootings, one injuring a child bystander; two vehicle thefts; and the theft of a pet dog

 

A child was injured in one of two shootings in Uptown neighborhoods this week, according to reports from the New Orleans Police Department. The reports also show the rash of vehicle thefts and carjackings continues, despite several recent arrests. And a man is missing his dog after it was stolen from him in Central City. Armed robbery: A woman’s car was stolen in the Freret neighborhood on Wednesday (Nov. 17).

Police blotter: Multiple carjackings and vehicle thefts among the crimes reported in Uptown neighborhoods

New Orleans Police Department crime reports show a rash of vehicle thefts and carjackings over the past week, with multiple incidents in the Lower Garden District and on or near South Carrollton Avenue. Shoppers were targeted in robberies at Costco on Carrollton and the Magnolia Marketplace on South Claiborne Avenue. Two stabbings and a shooting were also reported in Uptown neighborhoods.
