Uptown neighborhoods plagued by carjackings, armed robberies

Multiple carjackings have been reported by the New Orleans Police Department this week across Uptown neighborhoods.

A 21-year-old woman was carjacked early Wednesday (Dec. 22) in the Irish Channel. She was parking her car in the 3300 block of Constance Street just before 1 a.m. when three men approached.

They demanded her keys and other property before fleeing in her 2013 gray Mercedes-Benz with Louisiana license plate 685 DBK.

On Tuesday morning, two carjacking incidents and an armed robbery were reported in Uptown neighborhoods.

At about 6:45 a.m., a 57-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint in the 1500 block of Philip Street in the Garden District.

An armed man got out of a white sport utility vehicle, opened the victim’s passenger door and demanded his wallet. He then took a bag from the victim’s car, got back into the SUV and fled.

Three people were carjacked in the University area just after 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday. A 55-year-old woman, a 22-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man were in the 1100 block of Lowerline Street when armed men approached.

The men took their wallets and cellphones, then got in their 2019 Nissan Altima with the keys in it. The NOPD stated that two or three carjackers were involved.

A 69-year-old woman was injured during an attempted carjacking Tuesday morning (Dec. 21) in the East Carrollton area.

She was in the 900 block of Cambronne Street at about 6:25 a.m. when a man walked up, pointed a gun at her and demanded her vehicle. He shot a bullet through the window and then fled without the car.

The woman suffered a small laceration from the window glass and was taken to the hospital by the Emergency Medical Service.

Two carjacking incidents were reported Monday night (Dec. 20).

A 59-year-old man thwarted a carjacking attempt at about 11:20 p.m. in Broadmoor. He was sitting in his car in the 4200 block of South Prieur Street when a man and woman walked up.

The man pulled at his door handle while pointing a gun. The victim refused to open the door, and the two fled.

A man was carjacked in the Touro-Bouligny neighborhood about an hour earlier. The 52-year-old victim was in the 4100 block of Annunication Street when four men approached.

One pointed a gun at him and demanded his property. The victim got out of his car, and another man got into his white GMC Terrain and fled.

Further details were not immediately available. Anyone with information is urged to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward.
