On Friday afternoon, a man helping a stranger who professed to be a Vietnam veteran was robbed at his home near Audubon Park, the New Orleans Police Department reported. A 62-year-old man responded to a knock on his door in the 300 block of Broadway at about 3:30 p.m. to find a stranger who, saying he had served in Vietnam, professed to be stranded and asked for money to get home. The victim let the man inside and went to get his wallet. In the meantime, the intruder rummaged through the living room and found a box of cash.

The 39-year-old was dropped off at St. Charles and Delachaise Street just before 1 a.m. when he was approached by the robber, who grabbed his cellphone and wallet and fled. A man walking in Central City on Friday was jumped by four men who stole his phone, the New Orleans Police Department reported. The victim, a 23-year-old male, was near Magnolia Street and Felicity Street when a man hit him on the head with a bag, knocking him down. Three other men then went through his pockets and stole his iPhone 7. The victim described one of the attackers as a tall, bearded dark-skinned black man of medium build wearing a red shirt and a black backpack. No description was given for the other attackers.

The victim, a woman in her early 40s, “got into a physical altercation” with a man she knew shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, in the 3700 block of Freret Street (near Amelia), according to the initial NOPD report. “Victim left location to call for help when subject followed her, armed with knife,” the report continues. “Subject then snatched victim’s fanny pack off her body with knife in hand.”
