Police blotter: Shootings reported in Central City and Leonidas

Sixth District officers were called to a shooting at Magnolia and Sixth streets Wednesday night at 10:51 p.m. When they arrived, however, no victim was found at the scene. In the Leonidas neighborhood on Monday (June 1), a 25-year-old man was shot by three men in a white four-door Dodge Charger with a black bumper. The victim was walking near Green and Eagle streets with the men began shooting from the car. He was hit in the left foot. On Monday at about 7:15 a.m., two victims were shot during a burglary in the 1200 block of Freret Street in Central City.

15-year-old wounded in Hollygrove shooting

Two separate shootings, one involving a 15-year-old victim, were reported in the Hollygrove area on Thursday (April 9). The first occurred around 4:30 p.m. in the 8800 block of Forshey Street. A newer model white Ford F-150 pulled alongside the victim, a 15-year-old male. The driver, who was wearing a ski mask, opened fire, striking victim multiple times in the legs. At 10:52 p.m., Second District NOPD officers were called to the 2500 block of Monroe Street, near Eagle Street.

Shootings with injuries reported in Gert Town and Milan areas

A shooting in Gert Town and another in the Milan area left two men injured, the New Orleans Police Department reported. The first incident occurred Friday (Feb. 14) about 7:50 p.m. at Pine and Stoelitz streets. A 35-year-old man was walking along the sidewalk when he was approached by two assailants with hoodies over their heads. The victim was running from them when he realized he was shot in his right leg.

One man killed, two injured in second deadly Central City shooting in two days

One man was killed and two others injured in a shooting Saturday afternoon in Central City, the New Orleans Police Department reported. The shooting occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 28 in the 1600 block of South Liberty Street. Sixth District officers responding to a report of shots fired found the victim lying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical technicians arrived on the scene and transported the victim to University Medical Center, where he died.

Man shot dead on Perrier near Audubon Park; a second overnight shooting injures two

Two shootings, one of them fatal, were reported overnight in Uptown neighborhoods. Second District officers responded to a report of gunfire on Perrier Street near Audubon Park at about 11:15 p.m. When the officers arrived to the 6300 block of Perrier, they found a young man on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor with the emergency medical service. At midnight, the NOPD emailed a news release that a homicide, originally reported as a double shooting, had occurred on Perrier Street. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will determine an official cause of death and release the victim’s name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

Suspects in string of armed carjackings, shootings are in police custody

Five suspects linked to a wave of armed carjackings and other violent crimes have been taken into custody by New Orleans police, Superintendent Shaun Ferguson announced Wednesday. Cornell Sparkman, 18, and a juvenile, 16, face charges in multiple armed carjackings and shootings. Sparkman, the 16-year-old and a 15-year-old are also linked to a triple shooting in Hollygrove.  A third juvenile, 17, faces a single charge in one of the carjackings. In addition to this group, Theron Glover, 18, was identified as the suspect in a quadruple shooting that occurred on May 13 at South Saratoga and Fourth streets in Central City. Glover had been arrested in connection with more than 80 auto burglaries in the 1st and 3rd NOPD districts.

Man wounded in shooting while in car in Leonidas neighborhood

A man was injured in a shooting in the Leonidas neighborhood on Sunday night, the New Orleans Police Department reported. At 11:47 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, an 18-year-old man heard a single gunshot while he was in his car near Cambronne and Cohn streets. He then realized he was hit by the bullet. He was treated at a local hospital for a gunshot wound. Further details were not immediately available.
