Get answers to your roadwork questions tonight at District A event

District A residents can find what’s going with the street repairs in their neighborhood at an informational event Monday evening (Oct. 17). Hosted by District A Councilman Joe Giarrusso’s office and the Department of Public Works, the event will include informational tables on the current FEMA-funded Joint Infrastructure Recovery projects, including Magazine Street, Audubon Group B, Lowerline Street Audubon Group A, Black Pearl East Carrollton Group A, Marlyville-Fontainebleu Group A and C, Hollygrove Leonidas Group A and Hollygrove Group B.

The event will be held at the Thurgood Marshall School, 4621 Canal St. It begins at 6 p.m. 

 

Roadwork ahead: South Carrollton closure between Fig and Earhart postponed (updated)

Editor’s note: The city announced on Oct. 3 that the closure has been postponed until further notice. 
South Carrollton Avenue will close to traffic between Fig Street and Earhart Boulevard beginning Monday (Oct. 3) at 7 a.m. and lasting through 5 p.m. on Dec. 5. The city’s Department of Public Works contractor Wallace C. Drennan, Inc. will install new water lines and drainage as part of the Marlyville-Fontainebleau Group C infrastructure improvement project.

Roadwork ahead: St. Charles Avenue to close between Fern and Burdette

Beginning on Monday (Sept. 26) at 7 a.m. the Department of Public Works contractor will temporarily close the westbound travel lane of St. Charles Avenue between Burdette Street and Fern Street for about four weeks to accommodate waterline installation work. During this time, westbound traffic on St. Charles Avenue will be detoured either south onto Broadway Street and rerouted to Leake Avenue or north onto Broadway Street and rerouted to South Claiborne Avenue.

Roadwork ahead: Zimpel Street closed at Broadway for two weeks

Part of Zimpel Street at Broadway will be closed for two weeks beginning Friday (Sept. 2), the Department of Public Works announced. The city’s construction contractor Hard Rock Construction will temporarily close the 7200 block of Zimpel Street and the intersection of Broadway at Zimpel to through traffic beginning Friday at 7 a.m. and ending Sept. 16 at 5 p.m.

The closure will allow crews to perform a sewer line repair as part of the Audubon Group B Infrastructure Improvement Project. Southbound traffic on Broadway will be detoured at South Claiborne Avenue to South Carrollton Avenue.

Roadwork ahead: City extends detours for Leake Avenue closure

On June 14, the Department of Public Works contractor, Hard Rock Construction closed the 7200 to 7500 blocks of Leake Avenue to vehicular traffic for approximately two weeks to conduct waterline repairs. Today (June 27), the decision was made to extend this closure for another two weeks to address newly discovered waterline damage. The anticipated completion date for all repairs is July 15. Barricades and traffic detours will be placed on Broadway and Magazine streets to direct traffic toward St. Charles and South Carrollton avenues, as well as St.

Roadwork officials to answer questions at District B ‘Coffee on Your Corner’

The city’s Neighborhood Engagement Office is hosting representativea from the Department of Public Works’ RoadworkNOLA: Nakia Polk, director of Special Projects & Strategic Engagement Office of Capital Improvement and Christopher Lloyd, outreach manager for the city’s Capital Improvement Program will be there. Polk and Lloyd will provide updates and answer questions about infrastructure projects in District B.

District B residents can bring their questions and concerns to a “Coffee on Your Corner” event on Thursday (June 30) from 10 to 11:30 a.m. It will be held in the Large Meeting room of the Keller Community Center, 4300 S. Roadwork ahead: Emergency sewer repair closes Broadway in Fontainebleau

On Wednesday (June 22), the city closed Broadway from Earhart Boulevard to Colapissa Street to vehicular traffic for approximately two days due to an emergency sewer point repair. Department of Public Works contractor Wallace C. Drennan installed security fencing and signage around the intersection. and flaggers will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians. That section of Broadway will be closed to vehicular traffic while crews complete the sewer point repair and Sewage & Water Board of New Orleans conducts a full inspection to avoid the possibility of a sewage backup. Drivers will detour from Colapissa to Pine Street until the expected reopen date of Friday (June 24).

Beginning today (June 14), the Department of Public Works contractor, Hard Rock Construction, LLC, will close the 7200 to 7500 blocks of Leake Avenue to traffic for approximately two weeks to conduct a waterline repair. Barricades and traffic detours will be placed on Broadway and Magazine streets to direct traffic toward St. Charles and South Carrollton avenues, as well as St. Charles Avenue at South Carrollton Avenue to direct traffic toward Henry Clay Avenue. The Black Pearl East Carrollton Group A project is scheduled to be completed this summer, weather permitting.

Roadwork ahead: Yearlong project to repave, add bike lanes to MLK Boulevard begins Monday

On Monday (May 23), weather permitting, the city’s Department of Public Works contractor, Boh Brothers Construction Co., will begin construction on the Martin Luther King Jr. Patch Mill Overlay project, extending from St. Charles Avenue to South Claiborne Avenue. Parking restrictions and temporary changes to traffic patterns along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will start at 7:30 a.m. and will remain in effect throughout the duration of the project. Construction crews will be working the full length of the travel lane in each direction from St. Charles to South Claiborne.

Roadwork ahead: Construction begins in May on MLK Boulevard between St. Charles and Claiborne

Construction on the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard Patch, Mill and Overlay project is scheduled to begin in May and the city expects it to continue for about 14 months. The city is holding a pre-construction community meeting on Tuesday (April 26) from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Allie Mae Williams Multi-Service Center second-floor meeting room at 2020 Jackson Ave. See here to register. A copy of the presentation will be sent to all registrants and uploaded to roadwork.nola.gov/projects before the meeting. Protected bike lanes will be added in both directions of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
