Annual Propeller Pop! gala celebrates social entrepreneurs this Wednesday

According to Propeller: A Force For Social Innovation, the nonprofit has accelerated over 215 entrepreneurs since 2011, and their ventures have created more than 485 jobs and generated over $112 million in revenue and financing. Propeller will host its annual gala and celebrate social entrepreneurs and innovation in New Orleans this Wednesday, Nov. 6. Propeller Pop! will take place in the Propeller incubator (4035 Washington Ave.) and will feature more than 10 popup restaurants, a tasting room by Roulaison Distilling Co., a silent auction, and more.

Live art fundraiser will pair professional painters with art students

Art students from Young Audiences Charter School will paint collaborative pieces live with Brandan “BMIKE” Odums and other professional New Orleans artists this Saturday, Oct. 5, at Urban South Brewery. YALA Art Live, a fundraiser for Young Audiences of Louisiana, will feature live painting, artist popups, a DJ and food truck. Urban South Brewery will host this event from 2 to 6 p.m. this Saturday, and they will donate a portion of every pint sold to the nonprofit.  The art pieces created will be auctioned off at YALA’s 10th Annual Dancing For The Arts fundraising gala, scheduled for Friday, Nov. 1.

GiveNOLA Day 2019: $5.9M raised for New Orleans nonprofits

750 local nonprofits received more than 50,000 donations and over $5.9 Million during the 2019 GiveNOLA Day. The Greater New Orleans Foundation’s Center for Philanthropy presented their annual giving event on May 7. The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Uptown’s Louise S. McGehee School, and the Louisiana Children’s Museum received the highest dollar amounts, while GiveNOLA’s Lagniappe Fund, Team Gleason, and McGehee School had the most donors. GiveNOLA Day off to a strong start with 12 more hours to give

By 11:57 a.m. on Tuesday, nearly  halfway through GiveNOLA Day, philanthropists had made 19,902 donations to 723 local nonprofit organizations, totaling $2,688,759, and counting. GiveNOLA Day, an initiative of the Greater New Orleans Foundation, is a one-day online giving event. For 24 hours, residents and anyone else who loves the New Orleans region can support their favorite local causes by donating to one or more of 700-plus participating nonprofit organizations. Last year’s event raised nearly $5.6 million from nearly 49,000 donations across the nation and around the world. GiveNOLA Day 2019 takes place from 12:00:01 a.m. to 11:59:59 p.m. on May 7.

Musicians and boil masters team up for a cause in Crawfish Boil and Block Party on Oak Street

The Jamie Galloway Crawfish Boil and Block Party, known as the “most anticipated event before festival season,”  takes place Sunday, March 31, in the 8300 block of Oak Street. The seventh annual boil and block party, a benefit for the New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic & Assistance Foundation, features live music on two stages . The world’s largest crawfish table contains a feast from master crawfish boilers Jason Seither (voted best boiled seafood, Louisiana Magazine) and James Clesi (voted best catfish in New Orleans). This community-driven event also showcases more than 50 New Orleans musicians in one big afternoon. Featured musicians on the outside stage include George Porter Jr. & Runnin Pardners, Papa Mali, 101 Runners and SOUL Brass Band.

Paw-lates with a purpose: Fitness and charity combine for Pups & Poses

Zeus’ Rescues is partnering with Footprints to Fitness and the Renaissance Art Hotel to offer an evening of poses and puppies — with a purpose. Participants have a chance to relax, tone their muscles and help stray dogs find a home, all at the same time. “Pups & Poses: Yoga & Pilates & Puppies” benefits Zeus’ Rescues, a privately funded pet-rescue shelter on Napoleon Avenue that finds homes for animals that end up in local high-kill shelters. Its goal, according to its website, is to “eradicate pet homelessness and euthanasia within the New Orleans metro area.” The workout is described as a high-energy flowing mixture of yoga and pilates, while surrounded by puppies and art inside the Renaissance Art Hotel gallery in the Warehouse District.
