Buku Music + Art Project finishes day one (photos)

The 2017 Buku Music + Art Project held its first day of performances on Friday, March 10 at Mardi Gras World. The day’s performances included rappers Lil Dicky, Lil Yachty and Travi$ Scott, and EDM artists like Zed’s Dead and TroyBoi. New Orleans rapper Juvenile made a surprise appearance after scheduled performer Young Thug was not able to make it to the festival at the last minute.

Indians meet at Second and Dryades (Photos)

On Mardi Gras morning, Mardi Gras Indians from Uptown met at the Sportsman’s Corner Bar in Central City. The Indian tradition is long-standing one in New Orleans’ black community and is a staple in the Mardi Gras celebration. Each year, the tribes sew their own elaborate suits by hand all year and debut them on Mardi Gras Day.

Bacchus celebrates the Saints’ 50th

On Sunday, Feb. 26, the Krewe of Bacchus paid homage to the New Orleans Saints, who celebrated their 50th anniversary this season. Each float highlighted different aspects of the life of the franchise so far. They had a float honoring the team’s first play, which was a kickoff returned for a touchdown by then-rookie wide receiver John Gilliam. They had a float for their 2009 Super Bowl victory, which was headed by a sculpture of quarterback Drew Brees hoisting his infant son.

Krewe of Mid City Celebrates Wine and Truth

The Krewe of Mid City rolled with the theme “In Vino Veritas” which translates to “In Wine, Truth.” Mid Celebrated its 83rd year rolling as a parade, making it the fifth-oldest continuously rolling Mardi Gras parade.

Sparta, Pygmalion roll Saturday night (Photos)

The Knights of Sparta and the Krewe of Pygmalion rolled along the traditional Uptown route on Saturday night. Sparta rolled with the theme “A Knight at the Tony’s” while Pygmalion rolled with the theme “Journey to the Jade Empire.” Krewe of Pygmalion
