Three restaurants. Three meals. One Dishcrawl. Shooting suspect, 12, arrested near South Claiborne after hit-and-run crash

The 12-year old boy who was wanted in a connection with a shooting in Broadmoor last month was arrested this week after crashing a stolen vehicle he was driving, New Orleans police said. The 12-year-old was wanted on an aggravated-battery charge for allegedly shooting a 17-year-old following an argument May 22 in the 3200 block of General Taylor, police have said. He was located late in Monday afternoon (June 9) on the 3400 block of S. Claiborne Avenue, said NOPD Sgt. John O’Brien at the Second District police weekly meeting of ranking officers Wednesday. Citing child-privacy laws, officers did not discuss the suspect by name Wednesday.

Sleeping women awakened by thieving intruders twice last week in Hollygrove, police say

Women sleeping in their Hollygrove homes were awakened by intruders who were stealing their belongings in two different incidents last week — in one case, including the victim’s underwear, New Orleans police said. On May 26 (last Monday), a woman asleep on the sofa in a home in the 2500 block of Monroe Street awoke to find a black male standing over her still-sleeping roommate’s bed watching her as she slept, said NOPD Sgt. Warren Keller the weekly meeting of ranking Second District officers. The woman screamed at the intruder, waking the roommate, and he fled from the residence through the back door, police say. The suspect stole a bag and women’s underwear from the home, police say, and he is believed to have entered through an unlocked window.

New Krystal Burger on South Claiborne receives City Council approval

A new Krystal Burger restaurant on South Claiborne Avenue received unanimous New Orleans City Council approval last week, the first in plans for a wave of a dozen or more new locations around the area. The plans were initially passed at a City Planning Commission meeting in late April, but needed City Council approval in order for the project to begin. The fast-food restaurant will use the building on South Claiborne between Earhart Boulevard and Napoleon Avenue that was previously a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant. The property has not been used since Hurricane Katrina. There is currently a Krystal Burger on Bourbon Street, but the South Claiborne location will be the first Krystal Burger restaurant in the city that is managed and operated by the national corporate office, Councilwoman LaToya Cantrell said at the meeting.
