Internationally known string trio and flutist perform Wednesday at Tulane

The 58th chamber music season of the New Orleans Friends of Music continues on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 with a performance by Berlin’s Jacques Thibaud Trio and flutist Eugenia Zukerman. The concert, at Tulane University’s Dixon Hall, begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $25 (free for Tulane students). A five-concert subscription for the remainder of the season is currently available for $100, a 20% discount over single-ticket prices.

Thieves target UPS packages around Uptown

With the holiday season arriving, UPS packages are disappearing from porches in Uptown, police say. “We’ve had quite a few of these in the last two weeks,” said NOPD Sgt. Warren Keller at the Second District weekly internal meeting Wednesday. A white four-door sedan has been seen trailing a UPS truck, said Keller, in charge of the property-crimes division. After the UPS driver makes a delivery, one person exits the car and takes the package from the residence, he said.

New “Festival of Lights” to brighten up Central Carrollton for the holidays

With the holidays approaching, Lynda Bermuda has been knocking on doors in Central Carrollton, encouraging her neighbors to participate in a new festival that aims to light up the neighborhood this year. Last year, residents on Bermuda’s Adams Street block decorated their homes to Christmas classic The Twelve Days of Christmas. “It was creative and great to see what people came up with,” Bermuda said. That display sparked an interest in people living around the corner or a few blocks away, she said. “I had a few neighbors ask if we could do something similar again,” Bermuda said, and she decided to make it a neighborhood affair this year.

Benefit for community center Exodus Place Tuesday

A fundraiser tonight (Tuesday, Dec. 4) will help launch Exodus Place, a new community center being developed by a Central City resident at the corner of Fourth and Dryades. Donors and volunteers will be present to introduce themselves with the community as they raise awareness for the project launched by by resident Candince McMillian, who was profiled in September in The Times-Picayune.
