Woman’s purse taken from her on Erato Street in Lower Garden District, police say

A woman walking on Erato Street in the Lower Garden District had her purse taken from her Monday morning, New Orleans police said.

The victim, a 50-year-old woman, was walking in the 1400 block of Erato Street (near Coliseum Street) around 10 a.m. when she was confronted by a stranger, the initial NOPD report states.

“The male demanded the victim’s purse,” the report states. “The victim complied and the subject fled the location.”

The incident is classified as a simple robbery, and further details were not immediately available. Anyone with information is urged to call the NOPD Sixth District station at 658-6060 to speak to a detective, or CrimeStoppers at 822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward.
