Woman wanted on attempted-murder charge in Mardi Gras Day stabbing near Coliseum Square

A woman who allegedly stabbed a man several times in the chest on Mardi Gras Day near Coliseum Square is now wanted on an attempted-murder charge, New Orleans Police said.

Kelsey Batiste, 21, got into a fight in the 1700 block of Coliseum Street (near Polymnia Street) around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, according to the initial NOPD report. When a man in his 30s tried to break the fight up, “Batiste reportedly produced a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times in the chest and in the hip,” the report states.

Batiste is now wanted on a charge of attempted second-degree murder, the report states.

The victim was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle and was later listed in stable condition, the report states.

Anyone with information is urged to call the NOPD Sixth District station at 658-6060 to speak to Detective Christopher Puccio, or CrimeStoppers at 822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward.
