A woman robbed a man of cash from his glove compartment at gunpoint on South Claiborne Avenue on Thursday evening, and an argument in Central City led to a man being shot later that night, New Orleans police said.

Around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 9, a man in his 30s parked his car in the 2200 block of South Claiborne (near Jackson Avenue) and began walking to Rally’s, when he realized a woman was at his car going through his glove compartment, according to the initial NOPD report.

“The victim walked back towards his vehicle and confronted the female, who then drew a black semi-automatic handgun, holding it at her waist side, and threatened to shoot the victim,” the report states. “The female fled on foot west on South Claiborne Avenue, then unknown, in possession of $400 in cash.”

Around 12:15 a.m., a man in his 20s was near St. Andrew and Brainard Street when he was confronted by an assailant with a gun, according to the report in that case.

“The subject called the victim by his nickname and a struggle ensued,” the report states. “The gun discharged, striking the victim, and the perpetrator fled on foot in an unknown direction.”

The victim was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle and was listed in stable condition afterward, the report states.

Further details were not immediately available in either case. Anyone with information is urged to call the NOPD Sixth District station at 658-6060 to speak to a detective, or CrimeStoppers at 822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward.
