The victim was walking at Broadway and Freret streets around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, when a silver vehicle pulled up next to her, according to a Tulane police report. The driver got out, told the woman, “I have a gun; don’t resist,” then forced her into the backseat and drove to Interstate 10, the report states.
“While driving, the subject informed the victim that he thought she was a prostitute and then demanded sex from her,” the report states. “The victim replied to the subject that she is not a prostitute; she is a student at Tulane. The victim then pleaded for release and begged the suspect to bring her back to Tulane’s Campus.”
When the driver reached the causeway, he turned the car around and drove back to the 8200 block of Willow Street, where he let the woman out of the car, the report states. As she got out, “the subject slapped her on the buttocks,” the report states.
The driver was described as a 6-foot-tall, bald, light-skinned, heavyset black man in his mid-30s with a “beer belly,” wearing blue jeans and a polo-style shirt of unknown color, the report states.
Anyone with information is urged to call the NOPD Second District station at 658-6020 to speak to a detective, or CrimeStoppers at 822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward.
