Two men tried to rape a 35-year-old woman at knifepoint overnight on Dublin Street, but she managed to fight them off and escape, New Orleans police said Tuesday.

The victim had stepped outside her home in the 2600 block of Dublin Street around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, when she was confronted by two unknown men, one who had a knife and was wearing a ski mask, said NOPD spokeswoman Ambria Washington.

“The victim then told police the subjects took her behind a parked vehicle but she was able to escape her attackers,” Washington said.

Supervisors with the NOPD Second District mentioned the attack to patrol officers during their weekly meeting on Tuesday with instructions to be on the lookout in the area. They could not offer additional details on the incident because rape attempts are investigated by the department’s sex-crimes unit based in headquarters.

Anyone with information is urged to call the NOPD Second District station at 658-6020 to speak to a detective, or CrimeStoppers at 822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward.
