A 15-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday afternoon after he tried to rob two different women at gunpoint on Leake Avenue, New Orleans police said.

Around 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, a woman was jogging near the 8700 block of Leake Avenue when she was confronted by a teen who demanded her iPhone, the report in the case states.

“The victim said the subject lifted up his shirt and displayed a gun,” the report states. “The victim said she then started running and the suspect ran after her. The victim was able to run into a business on Oak Street and the suspect then ran away in another direction.”

Later on Wednesday, officers responding to the report of a suspicious person near Pritchard Place and Cambronne Street found a suspect in the armed robbery, and found a handgun in the 8400 block of Pritchard Place, the report states. They then learned that he had approached another woman nearby and tried to rob her at gunpoint as well, the report states.

The teen — whose name has not been released because of his age — has been charged with two counts of attempted armed robbery with a firearm, the report states.

Anyone with more information about the robbery attempts is urged to call the NOPD Second District station at 658-6020 to speak to a detective, or CrimeStoppers at 822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward.
