A late-night computer sale near Magazine Street erupted into an exchange of gunfire Thursday after one group of armed men tried to rob the other, New Orleans police said.

The victim, a man in his late 30s, and a friend met two strangers in the 800 block of Robert Street — just a few steps off Magazine — around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, with two computers he was selling, according to the initial NOPD report. The buyers drew a gun and told the seller and his friend to walk away, grabbed the computers as well as another gun they found in the buyer’s car, and started to leave themselves, the report states.

The seller, however, still had a gun of his own, and fired several shots at them, and they fired back as they escaped with his belongings, the report states.

No injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire.

Anyone with information is urged to call the NOPD Second District station at 658-6020 to speak to a detective, or CrimeStoppers at 822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward.
