Rolling tonight: Mystic Krewe of Hermes, Le Krewe d’Etat, Krewe of Morpheus

There’s a chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight, about 30 percent before 11 p.m., the National Weather Service predicts, with a low around 64 degrees. It’s looking a little better than other parade nights this week, so Hermes, d’Etat and Morpheus are expected to roll on time.

Mystic Krewe of Hermes

Founded in 1937, the steadfast Hermes can boast of being the oldest krewe on the night-parade calendar. Like its namesake, the winged courier of the gods, Hermes delivers its message with pageantry and moves at a disciplined pace. The krewe’s inaugural parade was the first to use neon lighting for its floats. Its parades continue to win awards for their crowd-pleasing beauty. The theme this year is “Court Music of Louis XIV.”

Start: 5:30 p.m. at Jefferson Avenue and Magazine Street
The parade takes Magazine Street toward Napoleon Avenue, where it turns left and proceeds to St. Charles Avenue, following the traditional route to the CBD.
End: Tchoupitoulas Street and Poydras Street

Le Krewe d’Etat

Le Krewe d’Etat emerged in 1996 to bring political satire back to the Uptown streets during Carnival. The krewe is ruled by the Dictator, whose identity is never revealed. The theme is also a closely guarded secret until the parade, though the krewe promises: “All who preen in public are fair game for this irreverent band of hellions.” D’Etat was the first krewe to throw lighted blinking beads; its signature throw has a blinking skull. Start: 6:30 p.m. at Jefferson Avenue and Magazine Street
The parade turns right on Magazine, left on Napoleon, then right on St. Charles Avenue, following St. Charles to Canal Street.
End: 555 Canal St.

Krewe of Morpheus

Founded in 2000, the co-ed Krewe of Morpheus, named for the god of dreams, wishes sweet dreams to all revelers as the final parade on Friday. If you haven’t caught enough throws by the time Morpheus rolls, it’s a dream come true, for Morpheus riders are known for their generosity. Watch for the signature throw: a hand-decorated sleep mask. The theme for the 2019 parade is “Morpheus’ Dream Destinations.”

Start: 7 p.m. at Jefferson Avenue and Magazine Street
The parade takes Magazine Street toward Napoleon Avenue, where it turns left and proceeds to St. Charles Avenue, following the traditional route to the CBD.
End: Tchoupitoulas Street and Poydras Street
