Police still looking for Hyundai taken in Chestnut Street carjacking and shooting

The Hyundai sedan taken last week in a carjacking on Chestnut Street in which one of the victims was shot in the leg is still missing, and investigators are hoping the public can help find it as a lead in the case, New Orleans police said.

Around 7:40 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, a woman was in her 2016 Hyundai Elantra in the 3400 block of Chestnut (near Delachaise Street) waiting for her boyfriend who was walking to the car, according to the NOPD report in the case. Before he reached her, two men confronted him, demanding his belongings, and one of them shot him in the leg, the report states.

A third man then confronted the woman, took her car, and all three left in it. They were all wearing bandanas to conceal their faces and carrying guns, the report states.

The car has a Florida license plate of 764HMA, the report states.

Anyone with information is urged to call the NOPD Sixth District station at 658-6060 to speak to a detective, or CrimeStoppers at 822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward.
