Man stabbed in robbery attempt, New Orleans police say

A man walking on St. Charles Avenue near the overpass was stabbed Sunday morning in a robbery attempt, New Orleans police said.

The victim, a man in his 50s, was near St. Charles Avenue and Calliope Street shortly before 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, when he was confronted by an assailant who “demanded he empty his pockets,” according to the initial NOPD report.

“The victim attempted to run from the suspect and fell,” the report states. “The suspect then approached the victim again and stabbed him with a knife.”

The victim then escaped to the hospital for treatment, the report states.

Further details were not immediately available. Anyone with information is urged to call the NOPD Sixth District station at 658-6060 to speak to a detective, or CrimeStoppers at 822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward.
