Two people were injured Wednesday night in a shooting on Baronne Street a few blocks from the parades rolling past on St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans police said.

The two men were both struck by gunfire shortly after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, in the 1400 block of Baronne Street (near Thalia Street), said NOPD spokesman Aaron Looney.

“One victim was shot in the left leg and left shoulder and was transported to an area hospital,” Looney said. “A second victim was shot in the left foot and was brought to an area hospital by private conveyance.”

The shooting was originally believed to have taken place in the 1900 block of Erato, about a block away, but its location was later confirmed to be on Baronne, two blocks from the parade route.

Further details were not immediately available. Anyone with information is urged to call the NOPD Sixth District station at 658-6060 to speak to a detective, or CrimeStoppers at 822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward.
