Audubon Charter School’s Carrollton Avenue campus relocation to McDonogh No. 7 would require a variance from the city according to Operations Manager Alisa Dupre.
Dupre said the move would require four modular classrooms to be placed at the McDonogh No. 7 site, which would require a city variance. Dupre said the Orleans Parish School Board is currently working with the city on the variance while simultaneously doing repair work on the building.
“[OPSB] is looking to put us there temporarily, because of the condition of this building,” said Dupre.
The Carrollton campus suffered significant damage during Hurricane Isaac and students were out of school for two weeks said Dupre. She said the roof was recently repaired by OPSB and only leaked in one spot over the last week.
Dupre said if the parish school board is successful in getting the variance at McDonogh No. 7, Audubon would move it’s Carrollton campus operations there over the summer. She also said Broadway campus renovations are on pace for Audubon to return to that building during the summer of 2014. The school will continue to use two campuses.
Board Chairman Cornelius Tilton announced that members Jolynn King and Timothy Jackson terms’ expired and they will no longer serve on the board. King served as secretary and Jackson as vice chair.
The board held officer elections and there was only one nomination for each position. Tilton was re-elected board chairman and Derek Bardell was elected vice chair. Teddi Locke was elected secretary, though King will continue to volunteer and take meeting minutes when she can.
The board also set its meeting calendar for the remainder of the year. Dates include: Feb. 16, Mar. 16, Apr. 20, May 18, June 15, Aug. 17, Sept. 21, Oct. 19, Nov. 16 and Dec. 14.
The board concluded its meeting with an hour-long executive session. The agenda described the session as “senior personnel evaluation discussion”.
