The inside, downtown-bound lane of two Garden District blocks of St. Charles Avenue is expected to close for at least a week as part of the ongoing repaving project there, the city of New Orleans announced.
Contractors with Boh Brothers will be altering a manhole to match the height of the roadway at Fourth Street starting at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, according to a news release from the city:
Beginning tomorrow at 7:30 a.m., the City of New Orleans, Department of Public Works construction contractor, Boh Bros. Construction, LLC, will temporarily close the eastbound, left lane of St. Charles Avenue (between Washington Avenue and Third Street) for approximately one week so that crews can adjust the manhole to the existing roadway elevation at Fourth Street. Public safety is our priority; residents and commuters are reminded to use caution when driving, bicycling and walking near this construction site.
Manhole adjustments and additional scope of work are a part of the $4.3 million St. Charles Avenue (Louisiana Avenue to Calliope Street) repaving project that includes repaving the roadway from curb-to-curb, installing Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb, and installing ramps at intersections.
Boh Bros. Construction crews will simultaneously continue roadway, sidewalk and curb work on St. Charles Avenue between Erato to Euterpe streets.
