Four people, including two trapped on a burning balcony, had to be rescued by firefighters early Saturday morning from a three-story Uptown home fully engulfed by fire, authorities said.

The fire was first reported at 3:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of Peniston Street near Chestnut, and the home was already “fully involved” when firefighters arrived, according to our reporting partners at WWL-TV.

“Two residents were rescued from inside the dwelling and two were trapped on the second floor balcony and rescued,” said a statement from the NOFD. “The two residents trapped on the balcony were rescued unharmed, the two residents trapped inside were transported to an area hospital with light and heavy smoke inhalation.”

One firefighter was also treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation, the statement says. Firefighters also rescued two dogs from the house.
