New Orleans homicide investigators and officials from the coroner’s office have closed Fourth Street near South Claiborne amid an investigation Thursday morning.

Investigators’ attention is focused on a large apartment building in the 2600 block of South Claiborne where the logo reads “Cornerstone Missionary Baptist General Association” that neighbors say has been vacant for years, and is sometimes used as shelter by homeless people. Parts of the building appear open and exposed to the elements, though neighbors said the area behind the building was recently cleared around the time of the construction of the new Capital One bank across Fourth Street.

The investigation is currently being called an unclassified death, according to police officials.
