Couple carjacked in parking lot of St. Charles Avenue restaurant; man shot on Jackson Avenue, police say

A couple was robbed of their vehicle at gunpoint out of the parking lot of a St. Charles Avenue restaurant Saturday evening, and man was shot the same night on Jackson Avenue, New Orleans police said.

Around 10:15 p.m., a man and woman both in their 30s were in the back parking lot of Houston’s restaurant in the 1700 block of St. Charles Avenue, according to the initial NOPD report. As the woman closed her door, a man with a long gun pulled the door back open and ordered the couple out, the report states.

He then drove off in the vehicle, a silver 2009 Chevrolet Suburban with Louisiana license plate XUR 557, the report states.

Shortly after 11 p.m., a 31-year-old man was shot near Jackson Avenue and Clara Street, according to the report in that case. He offered no further information on the circumstances of the shooting, the report states.

Further details were not immediately available. Anyone with information is urged to call the NOPD Sixth District station at 658-6060 to speak to a detective, or CrimeStoppers at 822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward.
