Southern Food and Beverage Museum to celebrate re-opening with gala, free events

The Southern Food and Beverage Museum will celebrate its re-opening of the the finished museum, as well as the Museum of the American Cocktail’s New Orleans collection, with a gala Friday night and free demonstrations Saturday and Sunday focusing on fish, barbecue and pastries. 

The three-day event will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, April 17, and will continue through Sunday, April 19. The museum is located at 1609 Oretha C. Haley Blvd.

A gala celebrating the re-opening will kick off the weekend at 7 p.m. April 17. Patron tickets are $200 per person and these ticket holders will be invited to a reception at 6 p.m. before the gala begins. General tickets for the gala are $125 for members and $145 for non-members.

Those who attend the gala will enjoy live music and food and drinks made by local chefs, such as Ryan Hughes from Purloo and Justin Devillier, chef and owner of La Petite Grocery and Balise.

At 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, Tenney Flynn of G.W. Finn’s will host a fish demonstration in the Rouses Culinary Innovation Center by Jenn-Air.

A lecture on the history of barbecue by Steven Raichlen, barbecue curator, will follow at 5 p.m.

To end the weekend, Sucre will have a pastry demonstration at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 19. This will also be held in the Rouses Culinary Innovation Center by Jenn-Air.

All of the events on Saturday and Sunday will be free and open to the public.
