A man with a burning desire to break into Carrollton-area ATM machines hid a blowtorch inside a shopping cart to help with his heist, New Orleans police said.

The industrious thief was caught on video around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, trying to get into an ATM machine in the 1700 block of Eagle Street, according to a NOPD news release.

“The suspect then pulls out a blow torch from a shopping cart and attempts to gain entry by using the torch but was unsuccessful,” the report states. “Officers are currently investigating to see if this suspect is responsible for a similar incident that occurred on Monday (Feb. 6) in the 1300 block of South Carrollton Avenue.”

The 6-foot tall man appeared to be wearing a “black female wig” and multiple layers of clothing — a baseball cap, gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants, cream-colored shoes and white latex gloves, the report states.

Anyone with information is urged to call the NOPD Second District station at 658-6020 to speak to a detective, or CrimeStoppers at 822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward.
