Panera Bread, Zatarain’s, burritos, Asian dishes have joined the WOW Wingery and other familiar vendors in the Lavin-Bernick food court, which Tulane University officials rededicated Tuesday with the unveiling of a new large “Angry Wave” mascot logo.

“Everything old is new again,” Michael Lysaker, general manager of Tulane Dining Services, said in a news release. “The LBC Food Court, which has served us well for so many years, has now been redesigned and updated to provide fresh dining options. We will celebrate that with the comeback of an old favorite, the Angry Wave.”

Tulane athletics reinstituted the classic Angry Wave this year, and a 16-foot rendering of its belligerent image will now stand among the new and old food counters in the Lavin-Bernick Center. Tulane President Michael Fitts celebrated the reopening with a 16-foot cake representing the football field, and the vendors offered free samples at lunch Tuesday.

“Panera Bread opened its first Louisiana university location in the new Food Court and offers healthy soups, salads, and sandwiches,” according to an announcement from the university. “For the first time, New Orleans’ own Zatarain’s will serve up traditional Louisiana staples like jambalaya, red beans, and rice and gumbo. Al Fuego is a new Latin American offering featuring six kinds of signature salsas to accent tacos, burritos, nachos, quesadillas, and salad bowls. Star Ginger is a new vendor with Asian cuisines like pho-focused Vietnamese and Thai choices. Existing staples like Freshëns, Wall of Greens, Simply to Go, Tsunami Sushi, WOW Cafe & Wingery and Pickles remain with expanded offerings.”

The food court is open to the public and operates until 6 p.m. daily (except on Saturdays, when it is closed), but the hours change weekly based on campus events. Up-to-date information can be found at the food court website.
