The man who showed up wounded at Touro Infirmary following a gun battle Tuesday evening on Felicity Street near the Walmart shopping center that left another man dead has now been charged with murder in the case, New Orleans police said.

Dentri Lee, 23, is charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Billy McCormick, police said.

Lee was riding in a gray Toyota Corolla stolen out of Jefferson Parish around 7 p.m. Tuesday that crashed into a gold Nissan Altima on Felicity near Tchoupitoulas, and then began firing on the Altima, according to a NOPD news release. McCormick, who was in the Altima, was shot once and found dead on the sidewalk.

Lee then showed up at Touro Infirmary with a gunshot wound to the hand, the report states, and the Corolla he was driving was left abandoned behind the hospital, its flashers still blinking and damage all over the passenger side. Lee was initially held by police on a probation violation, then, based on the evidence and citizen involvement, Lee was charged with murder, the release states.

The driver of the stolen Corolla remains unidentified and at large, the report notes, and homicide detective Andrew Waldron is still actively investigating the case.

Lee’s arrest record includes a charge of possession of heroin, for which he is on probation until May 2018, the release states.
