How inconvenient is the interruption in service on the St. Charles streetcar line? It depends on who you ask.

“I am late for work,” said Steven Hawk of Riverbend. “It’s honestly the longest car trip I ever took.”

“It wasn’t inconvenient at all, as a tourist,” said D. Willoughby of Sag Harbor, N.Y.

The streetcars have temporarily stopped running from Erato Street through the Central Business District to Canal Street because of road repaving on St. Charles Avenue, Lee Circle and Carondelet Street, according to the New Orleans RTA. The work began Sept. 21 and is expected to run six to eight weeks.

In the meantime, the RTA is running replacement shuttle buses along Magazine Street and O’Keefe Avenue, parallel to the closed street car route to Canal, until the repaving is complete.
