MERCY ENDEAVORS SENIOR CENTER HOSTS ITS 1ST ANNUAL JAZZIN’ ON JACKSON GALA

NEW ORLEANS, LA- Mercy Endeavors Senior Center is hosting its 1st Annual Jazzin’ on Jackson Gala on Thursday, March 21, 2013, from 6-8PM at the St. Alphonsus Art and Cultural Center, located at 2045 Constance Street, New Orleans, LA, 70130. Mercy Endeavors serves the aging population of the Irish Channel and Lower Garden District by providing daily recreation, social enrichment, educational opportunities, nutrition programs, noon meals and advocacy programs to over 100 community seniors. The gala focuses on celebrating the lives of seniors, raising awareness about Mercy Endeavors and generating funds for a new, expanded center at the corner of Jackson and Rousseau.

The evening will feature live music, food, drinks and an art centerpiece courtesy of folk artist Simon Hardeveld of Antiques on Jackson. Musical entertainment will be provided by jazz musicians Phillip Manuel, Stephanie Jordan, Glen David Andrews and Captain Charles.

Libations include specialty drinks from Glazer’s Distributors as well as St. Arnold’s Brewery in addition to a variety of food from restaurants across the city.

The Jazzin’ on Jackson theme originated from the seniors citizens at Mercy Endeavors’ appreciation of the jazz music genre as well as the need for a new center on Jackson

Avenue to accommodate the growing number of senior citizens in the Irish Channel and Lower Garden District. In 2009, the Jamie Coleman family donated a parcel of land on Jackson Avenue to Mercy Endeavors. Since that time, four blighted buildings have been cleared and plans have been completed by Koch and Wilson Architect Robert J. Cangelosi, Jr., AIA, for development thereof.

In order to raise money for this building, Mercy Endeavors is hosting its 1st Annual Jazzin’ on Jackson Gala with Honorary Chairs Louisiana State Representative Walt J. Leger III and City Council Woman LaToya Cantrell. Camille Whitworth will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. Sponsors of the gala include Bruno & Bruno LLP, Sisters of Mercy-South Central Community, People’s Health, Real Estate Tax Group Inc., John and Joyce Stockmeyer, Bertucci & Labiche Private Wealth Management LLC, Dr. and Mrs. Lee Roy Morgan, Jr. as well as Bush and Charlotte Benton.

Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 in the door and may be purchased by calling Mercy Endeavors at 504-568-0607, by accessing Mercy Endeavors on facebook or online at www.mercyendeavors.com. Free off-street parking is available at two adjacent lots on St. Andrew Street between Magazine and Constance. Guests are encouraged to dress in jazzy attire from head to toe to celebrate the evening.
