Man shot to death on Central City street

A man was shot to death Wednesday morning (May 18) in Central City, the New Orleans Police Department reported.

Police found a man in the 2700 block of Clara Street, near Washington Avenue, with a single gunshot wound. The offense occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m., police said.

Medical responders took him to a local hospital, where he later died. The Coroner’s Office identified him as Byron Coleman. Coleman died of a gunshot wound at age 30.

This report was updated May 19 to reflect corrected information from the NOPD. The victim was struck once, not multiple times, by bullets. It was updated again after the Coroner’s Office provided the victim’s name.

  1. I must say, our beloved city of New Orleans is going down! I’m seeing vehicles with NO license plates, No Insurance..: all widows of the vehicle are tinted, including the windshield! Folks running red lights and stop signs, that’s why all the accident are occurring ..:Please Mayor and Police Chief , step up and let’s get our city under control again
