Man shot to death near Pontchartrain Hotel

The NOPD is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Friday afternoon (Dec. 10) in Central City near St. Charles Avenue.

Just before 3 p.m., Sixth District officers responded to a call reporting shots fired in the 1600 block of Josephine Street. They discovered Halston Hayes suffering from an undetermined number of gunshot wounds.

Hayes was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. He was 29.

According to a report from WDSU-TV, the 29-year-old worked for a nearby restaurant. Sources told the WDSU reporters that the victim was taking out the trash when a group of masked men pulled up in pickup truck and opened fire on him.

No further information is available at this time.
