  1. Thank you Fat Hen for choosing this location (can walk there). We have been anxiously awaiting the opening. Bienvenue.

    • went there to day for breakfast it was packed and had such a great vibe. the food and service was AMAZING !!!!!!!!!! great article. will be back very soon

  2. Thank you for posting the photos from the Fat Hen Grocery Opening. They look fantastic! That’s wonderful about the plethora of delicious offerings at the Fat Hen Grocery: pulled-pork sandwiches, the “Little Piggy” sandwich, St. Louis-style ribs, BBQ Berkshire pulled-pork shoulder with the ShaneMade pickles on a toasted bun, burgers, and chicken pot pie.

  3. I had a bad experience yesterday with the woman responsible for seating customers. She was overtly rude and downright mean. She disallowed me from sitting at the counter and ordering coffee, then basically told me to leave when I told her I just wanted a cup of coffee. I was not rude or contentious in any way with her. There are too many quality restaurants in New Orleans to ever bother going back here. Good riddance.

  4. The people that opened this place (juliet and shane pritchett) just pled guilty to like 10 counts of theft. They made thousands of dollars in charges on customers credit cards unauthorized.

    • I am wondering what people think about this. The crimes were mostly attributed to the wife, although it is hard to believe the husband was in the dark. Does the fact that the ownership (or at least the owner’s wife) has a criminal (or at least fraudulent) past influence your decision to dine here?

      • I also wondered if people would care about this when deciding whether or not to dine here. It’s definitely a little off-putting, for me, as I hate to think of purposely patronizing possibly dishonest people when there are so many honest ones to pick from. However, my suspicion is that in NOLA it’s going to live or die by the food quality and everyone will forget anything unrelated soon enough.

        • I’m not interested in supporting anyone that made unauthorized charges on their own customers’ credit cards. I’d rather support another locally owned establishment.

  5. We went on Saturday evening. They have a lot of bumps to work out and clearly, no one is quite sure how BBQ is typically served. Combination platters are always welcome if you have ribs, pulled pork, and an appetizer that suggests you have smoked sausage. Also, leave the pulled pork “clean” and give me a few of those “ShaneMade” sauces, please! It’s also a shame to order a $4 serving of Berkshire bacon to have it improperly prepared and served in a pool of grease. I ordered a medium *well* burger and it was definitely on the rare side of medium. I’m not all that squeamish, but had that been served to my daughter, I would have sent it back. Temperature on burgers is *critical* because people take the preparation of ground meat seriously.

Some tweaks to the menu, more attention to preparation and presentation, and more even service (which will come with time) will go a long way here.

  6. mediocre food, terrible service.

maybe they can iron out the kinks but I think this place will probably have the same fate as every other well intentioned eatery in this location.
