Egyptologist to discuss animal mummies in lecture at Tulane

Dr. Salima Ikram, professor of Egyptology at The American University in Cairo, will give a lecture about the relationship between humans and animals, as seen through ancient Egyptian mummies. 

“Sacred Creatures, Beloved Pets: Ancient Egyptian Animal Mummies” will be held in 102 Dinwiddie Hall on Tulane’s campus. This event will begin with refreshments at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, and the lecture will follow at 6 p.m.

During this lecture, Ikram will explain the different types of animal mummies, what they mean and how they depict the ancient Egyptians’ relationship with animals.

This event is free and open to the public.
