Armed robbers hit four South Claiborne corridor businesses, police say

A spree of armed robberies were reported at businesses along the South Claiborne Avenue corridor Thursday afternoon, New Orleans police said.

The first robbery was reported at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at Rally’s in the 2200 block of South Claiborne, when a man walked up to the window and raised his shirt to show a gun in his waistband, according to the initial NOPD report. He took money from the cashier, then left on foot on Jackson Avenue, the report states.

Around 5:45 p.m., a man walked into a mechanic’s yard in the 4600 block of Earhart Boulevard and drew a black revolver, the report in the next case states. He took cash from the man there, then left on Earhart Boulevard, the report states.

Around 7 p.m., a man walked into the Diamond Beauty Supply Store in the 2100 block of South Claiborne and demanded money, the report in that case states.

“The employee locked the register and hit the panic button,” the report states. “The subject implied he had a weapon and threatened the employee. When the subject realized another employee in the store was calling the police, he fled the scene.”

About 10 minutes later, a man walked into the It’s Fashion store in the 2800 block of South Claiborne and demanded money from the 30-year-old woman at the register.

“The subject implied he had a weapon,” the report states. “The employee complied and he fled.”
