Crimestoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information concerning a shooting on S. Claiborne that left three victims dead and seven additional victims injured.
The NOPD is investigating the incident that occurred around 8:35 p.m. Saturday night (July 28) in the 3400 block of S. Claiborne Avenue. NOPD Second District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting involving multiple adult victims.
Upon arrival, officers discovered three victims in the area suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers then learned that multiple victims had been transported to area hospitals via private conveyance with gunshot wounds sustained in the incident. The three victims found at the scene, described as two males and one female, were pronounced dead at the scene. The seven additional victims, identified as five males and two females, were transported to area hospitals. Four of the victims arrived at the hospital by private conveyance, while three were transported via EMS.
Through investigation, detectives determined that two unknown armed subjects believed to be wearing hooded sweatshirts allegedly approached a group of people standing outside of a business and opened fire, striking 10 of the individuals. The subjects then fled the scene northbound on South Claiborne Avenue toward Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, then unknown.
The New Orleans Police Department issued the following update Sunday afternoon:
The NOPD – along with our partners at the Louisiana State Police, U.S. Attorney’s office, ATF and the FBI – continue to work around the clock to identify and bring to justice the people responsible for the shooting that left three people dead and seven others injured Saturday night near the intersection of South Claiborne & Louisiana avenues.
While investigators are still in the early stages of the investigation, they have obtained evidence that leads them to believe that this incident is gang related. Detectives have also determined that one of the deceased male victims, who was found shot multiple times outside the shops in the 3400 block of South Claiborne Avenue, was the intended target.
As for the seven people injured in the gunfire, the NOPD does not have an update on their conditions at this time. As of last night, none of their injuries were believed to be life threatening.
NOPD Chief Michael Harrison is once again urging members of the community to call NOPD Homicide Unit detectives at 504-658-5300 or Crimestoppers with any information that may help in the investigation.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell released the following statement on the shootings that occurred on South Claiborne Avenue near the Milan area:
“There is no place in New Orleans for this kind of violence. I speak for everyone in our City when I say we are disgusted, we are infuriated, and we have had more than enough. Three more lives — gone. It has to end. This happened near my neighborhood, on the edge of Broadmoor. It’s unacceptable anywhere.
“We are grateful to those on the scene tonight: the NOPD, EMS, the chaplains and the social workers. We will dedicate every resource necessary to ending this horror and seeing justice done.”
