Three teenagers arrested immediately after an armed-robbery attempt in the French Quarter on Tuesday night have also been charged in a mugging in the Irish Channel from about an hour earlier, and investigators are looking into the possibility of their involvement in more of Uptown’s armed robberies, police said.

A woman walking in the 900 block of Seventh Street was robbed at gunpoint by three teens around 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, said Sgt. Sandra Contreras of the NOPD Sixth District persons-crime unit on Thursday afternoon. They made the woman lay down and put the gun in her mouth, but all they could find to steal from her was an iPod and her cell phone, Contreras said.

An hour later another armed robbery was attempted in the 1000 block of Chartres Street, according to an email alert from the NOPD Sixth District. The suspects were described as leaving in a maroon Grand Prix, and police spotted the vehicle at St. Bernard and Claiborne and stopped it, the email said.

Investigators found the items taken in the Seventh Street robbery on one of the men in the car, Tyrone Moore, police said, and the three occupants of the vehicle were charged as follows:

Tyrone Moore (NOPD)

  • Jerry Carmouche, 19: armed robbery with a firearm
  • Damion Brown, 18: principle to armed robbery with a firearm
  • Tyrone Moore, 19: principle to armed robbery with a firearm

Police in the Second District said Wednesday that the three suspects in the Irish Channel robbery may have also been involved in a robbery the same night on Loyola Avenue. Second District detectives also joined the investigation, and they are trying to link an as-yet-unidentified cell phone also found in the car to any of the other Uptown robberies, Contreras said.

Possible links to other cases are being investigated, police said, though no other charges have yet been filed.

St. Charles Avenue robbery | Meanwhile, the latest Uptown robbery was reported at 10:50 p.m. in the 1600 block of St. Charles Avenue. Two women had left a bar in the 1500 block of St. Charles, and were walking toward the car they had parked at Terpsichore and Carondelet, Contreras said. Two men walked up from behind and passed the women on each side, and one headed off down Terpsichore, but the other turned and pointed a gun at the women, demanding their valuables, Contreras said.

Police found some of the stolen property about a block away at Euterpe and Carondelet, and Contreras said investigators believe surveillance cameras in the area recorded the incident.

  1. Just as a case study could you try and follow there cases through the criminal justice system? I know news is fast moving. But the Channel deserves to know how long these thugs will be in jail.

  2. Love it. Way to go NOPD. Its ridiculous these three guys can hold entire neighborhoods hostage. We live in a great city and can’t enjoy it without the fear of being held up at gunpoint for pocket change.

I encourage everyone to make note of the names of these thugs and follow this story to its conclusion–which is hopefully a lengthy stay prison. They should be made an example of! Violent crimes like these should NOT be tolerated in this city. Hold our public officials accountable for this case! Keep us posted Uptown Messenger….

  3. I agree. I find it ridiculous that these young men are arrested with “lengthy criminal histories” at *15*. How can that happen? The system is failing everyone all the way around if those are the results we’re getting. This wave of robberies and the uptick in petty property crimes means that the NOPD’s old line of “if you aren’t involved in the drug trade” you can expect to live a unicorn and rainbows crime free life is becoming laughably disingenuous. Our home was broken into, our house has been tagged, but thank god we were away from home during these incidents.

I add my voice to those upthread who would like to see some case studies on what happens to these young criminals. I think it would provide power to the people if we knew exactly what our elected and appointed officials are doing (or not doing). Knowledge is power and specific incidents support our general argument that not enough is being done actively and proactively to curb crime.

  4. Don’t know if I am reading this right but it looks like they have been released
