A man caught on surveillance camera running from an Uptown store where a smartphone was stolen is being sought by police, who released his image Thursday morning.
The man was browsing in a business in the 5300 block of Tchoupitoulas Street around 3:25 p.m. Tuesday, looking at phones in display cases and telling any employee who offered help that “someone else” was helping him, police said. After a few minutes, he ran out, and an employee saw that a BlackBerry Curve was missing from a display case near where he’d stood.

Captured on video, he is described as a 5-foot-9, medium-built white man, with short brown hair or balding, wearing a white T-shirt and blue shorts.
