Loyola University New Orleans announces the opening of the “Loyola Center for Counseling and Education (LCCE),” a new sliding-scale counseling clinic offering mental healthcare to underserved members of the New Orleans community. The LCCE is hosted by Loyola University New Orleans’ Department of Counseling.
The clinic is housed at 2020 Calhoun St. in Mercy Hall on Loyola University’s campus and is easily accessible from the surrounding residential area. The LCCE is presented in partnership with the New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic & Assistance Foundation and Preservation Hall Foundation.
Mission
Loyola Center for Counseling and Education is committed to providing effective mental health counseling services on a sliding-scale to underserved families, couples, groups and individuals at every stage of life. In tandem with clinical services, LCCE supervises exemplary training for graduate students in Loyola University New Orleans’ Department of Counseling.
The mental health clinic is born out of a necessity to serve a community in crisis: according to the 2018 Mental Health America report, Louisiana ranks 45th in access to care.
“Sustainability, accessibility, and quality have been key guiding factors in the founding of this clinic,” said Sarah Zoghbi, co-founding director of program development. “Our infrastructure is built to last, our services are designed to lower barriers to care for those most in need, and the highest standards for quality treatment are valued and supported by clinicians and academic supervisors.”
“It is our sincere hope to fill a gap in the community by providing high-quality services for those in need,” said Clinical Director Dr. John Dewell. “No one will be turned away for lack of funds.”
