The New Orleans Film Society will hold a free screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller “Vertigo” on the grounds of Latter Library on Saturday evening as the spring 2015 series of Moonlight Movies begins.

“Though dismissed when first released, audiences and critics alike have since heralded Vertigo, recently replacing Citizen Kane at the top of Sight and Sound’s poll of ‘The Greatest Films of All Time,'” according to a synopsis of the film at the New Orleans Film Society website. “The film stars James Stewart and Kim Novack, and to quote industry mogul Marco Mueller, ‘paranoia and obsession have never looked better.'”

If necessary, the rain date for Vertigo is April 23.

The Moonlight Movies series actually begins Friday, April 17, with a screening of Purple Rain in the Bywater, and continues with other events around the city. The other Uptown-area entry in the series is Grease, planned for June 6 at Coliseum Square.

All movies begin at sundown. These screenings are free, but the suggested donation is $5. Food and drinks will be sold at the events.
