Officials from the Isidore Newman School will meet next week with the two surrounding neighborhood associations to discuss proposed changes to their campus, prior to the City Council’s vote on the issue next month.
Several neighbors with concerns about the school’s plans had asked the school for time for such a meeting, and the City Council deferred its scheduled vote on the matter last week. The meeting of the Baronne Street and Hurstville neighborhood associations is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at the Jewish Community Center. Details, from email:
The Baronne Street Neighborhood Association has invited residents of the Hurstville Neighborhood Association to its neighborhood meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m at the Jewish Community Center to hear a presentation by Newman School officials regarding the proposed changes to their Conditional Use permit regarding expansion of their campus. BSNA and Hurstville Neighborhood Association boundaries split down the middle of Jefferson Avenue thus both are affected by this project. While Newman’s campus falls on the outside boundary of BSNA, it is not included in Hurstville’s boundaries at all. However, some HSD residents may be affected by these changes. Please note that BSNA will not speak for HSN and HSN will not speak for BSNA.
After a brief question and answer period, BSNA residents will have the opportunity to express their opinions and BSNA will formulate an opinion on the proposal to present to their Councilmember Stacy Head.
Councilmember Guidry represents HSN. While the HSN Board has decided not to take a position on this matter, neighbors, as always, are welcome to share their concerns in support or opposition with Counclmember Guidry.
