The Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel presents ‘A Garden District Christmas Concert’

The Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel, located at 1307 Louisiana Avenue, presents “A Garden District Christmas Concert 2016” on “Gaudete” Sunday, December 11. The concert begins at 4 p.m. and will feature The Good Shepherd Choir and a mixed repertoire of familiar and unfamiliar music.

Though the concert is free to attend, free-will donations will be accepted. A reception will follow in the vestibule.

“A Garden District Christmas Concert 2016” will be presented at the Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel, 1307 Louisiana Avenue, on “Gaudete” Sunday, December 11th, at 4:00 pm.
Featured will be several of New Orleans’ finest musicians, including sopranos Phyllis Treigle and Melissa Brocato; mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Evans; tenors Kevin Rouchell, Bart Folse, and Angelo Giuliano Lupinetti; and organist Brian Morgan, Director of Music. The Good Shepherd Choir will also perform Gregorian Chant.
Composers included will be Adolphe Adam, Carson Cooman, Richard Felciano, Adam Gumpelzheimer, Calvin Hampton, George Lachenauer, Nicola A. Montani, Gerald Near, and Camille Saint-Saëns. The repertoire performed will be a mixture of the familiar and unfamiliar.
The beautiful Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel was dedicated in 1894, and is regarded as the “most precious jewel in the crown known as the Garden District.”  The church is now part of Good Shepherd Parish, which comprises, as well, St. Stephen Church and the Church of St. Henry.
