A former mayoral candidate will meet a former television newscaster in a runoff for a vacant seat in the state legislature, according to complete but unofficial results from the Secretary of State's office.

James Perry took 38 percent of the vote and Helena Moreno followed with 27 percent to advance to a May 29 runoff out of a six-candidate field that proved competitive. Two other candidates, Louis Charbonnet III and Thomas Robichaux, together took another third of the 2,369 ballots cast in Saturday's race. Turnout was 9 percent.

  • James Perry: 890 (38%)
  • Helena Moreno: 643 (27%)
  • Louis Charbonnet III: 498 (21%)
  • Thomas Robichaux: 269 (11%)
  • Rhodesia Jackson Douglas: 41 (2%)
  • Carlos J. Hornbrook: 28 (1%)

The district primarily represents the Central Business District, French Quarter and Mid City, but a portion in the Garden District (east of Toledano between St. Charles and Constance) abuts the Uptown.
