A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder in a March shooting death in the Milan neighborhood, police said Wednesday.
Investigators identified Jamal W. Brown as the man who gunned down 27-year-old Shedrick L. Turner shortly after 4 a.m. March 11 near the intersection of Delachaise and South Liberty streets, said Sgt. Shaun Ferguson of the NOPD Second District persons-crimes unit.
Brown was arrested last week on charges of second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and probation violation, according to jail records. He also remains a suspect in a nonfatal shooting on South Derbigny, Ferguson said.
When Brown was arrested, investigators found two guns under his mattress, Ferguson said. Because Brown pleaded guilty to a felony cocaine charge in September of last year, he now faces a minimum of 10 years for the gun-possession charge separate from the murder charge, Ferguson said.
