Jewish Family Service to honor mother and daughter for community work

The Jewish Family Service of Greater New Orleans will honor Marjorie Bissinger and her daughter, Nancy Bissinger Timm, later this month at its annual Rhythm and Soul Fundraiser.

The event will be held on Sunday, May 31 at 5 p.m. in the Audubon Tea Room, 6500 Magazine St. It will consist of a patron hour and then a seated dinner and program.

Marjorie Bissinger worked to promote education throughout her career. She served as the storyteller and elf on WDSU’s “Let’s Tell a Story” for 17 years. Bissinger also taught nursery school for 18 years at the Jewish Community Center.

Throughout her career, she has focused on education with her work at schools and libraries. She has gotten recognition for her work, which includes receiving the Tzedakah Award from the Jewish Endowment Foundation and the Hannah G. Solomon Award.

Nancy Bissinger Timm has also dedicated her life to working to better the community. She has worked as a clinical social worker at Trinity Counseling and Training Center, the Louise S. McGehee School and the Louisiana Center for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Disabilities.

She has volunteered at various places, including the Association for Jewish Family and Children’s Agencies, the Anti-Defamation League and the National Council of Jewish Women. Timm has also served as president of the Jewish Family Service Board of Directors.
